What happened?
As of July 17, 2022, the Kaspersky antivirus engine was removed from GFI MailEssentials. On February 1, 2023, Cyren announced global job cuts due to liquidity problems. In light of this development, the Cyren antivirus engine was preemptively removed from GFI MailEssentials.
What does this mean in practical terms?
Neither the Kaspersky nor the Cyren add-on is available for new purchases or renewals. The add-ons will continue to function for existing subscriptions that had them before the dates mentioned above. However, at the time of renewal, the add-ons will be automatically removed.
Although we will continue to provide support for customers opting to leave either add-on enabled, we cannot guarantee continued updates of any kind or provide support if these are suddenly discontinued.
Where do we go from here?
For any customers wishing to utilise the extra security that an antivirus engine add-on can provide, Sophos is currently available as a replacement. Speak with your GFI partner about adding it to your license and then simply follow the instructions in our article, How to enable the Sophos antivirus engine add-on.
