Overview
This article provides MailEssentials housekeeping tips. Before these are applied, our agent must request and read logs first and acknowledge that there are no serious issues with the system (but it is still slow). Check that there are no resource-related issues, such as Lacking RAM, HDD space, etc.
Solution
Note: Supported MailEssentails should be installed.

Temporary files cleanup.
Please check and purge these folders (skip the files that are reported to be in use):

C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\Antispam\temp. Do not delete the tnefupck folder but delete its content.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\Temp. Do not delete the tnefupck folder but delete its content. All other folders can be deleted.

C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\Backend\temp

Network service permission.

Right-click the C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials folder and select Properties.

Click the Security tab. Add the "Network Service" account with Full control permissions and click OK.

- Private Queue Build-up, reports, and quarantine database.
It is best to stop mail flow (i.e. turn off the Microsoft Transport Agent service) before doing the following process as emails will not be filtered by GFI MailEssentials.
Disable the GFI MailEssentials AS and AV scan engines. Disable the GFI MailEssentials Attendant service. Stop all GFI MailEssentials services.
a. Go to Start > Run > type
compmgmt.msc
and click OK; computer management MMC will open.b. Go to the Services and Applications node and browse to Message Queuing.
c. Open the Private Queues.
d. Here there should be the MailEssentials queues.
e. Expand a queue and two new nodes will appear Queue Messages and Journal Messages.
f. Right-click Queue Messages, select All Tasks > Purge.
g. A confirmation window will appear; press OK to clear all messages in the queue.
h. Repeat these steps for all queues.
i. Refresh the private queues and ensure they are all showing 0 items.
- Recreate the Reporting databases:
a. Browse to: ..\GFI\MailEssentials\Data\
b. Rename
Reports.fdb
toReports.old
c. Browse to: ..\GFI\MailEssentials\Attendant\data
d. Rename
Logs.FDB
toLogs.old
e. Browse to: ..\GFI\MailEssentials\Attendant\bin
f. Double click on LogsFDBCreator.exe.
g. Confirm there are new Logs.FDB in ..\GFI\MailEssentials\Attendant\data
- Start the GFI services, enable the disabled services, and monitor the private queues to ensure they do not build up. Open the MailEssentials configuration and check the Logs tab to ensure we are blocking spam.
