Answer
PROBLEM
Stopping the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Stores causes IIS Admin service to stop
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI MailEssentials
- All supported environments
SOLUTION
To solve the problem, IIS Admin needs to be restarted.
A Microsoft Exchange administrator might typically find it necessary to temporarily stop mailbox stores to perform tasks such as Microsoft Exchange database defragmentation. In such cases, it is recommended that an alternative action be configured on GFI MailEssentials, such as tagging of spam, for the duration of such tasks.
CAUSE
When GFI MailEssentials is installed on the Microsoft Exchange Server, it can be configured to save blocked spam to a folder within the user's mailbox. If the mailbox store is off-line, however, it will not be possible to save messages to mailboxes in that store, and the global actions (copy to disk or forward to email address) will instead be executed.
However, if a mailbox store is taken off-line and GFI MailEssentials happens to be copying a message to a mailbox in that store at that very moment, IIS Admin and services that depend on it might terminate unexpectedly.
