Overview
Exchange Message Tracking indicates that some emails failed delivery to the recipient’s mailboxes with the following error:
'SMTP: Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver message.'
Environment
- GFI MailEssentials
Root Cause
This message may be shown when GFI MailEssentials is installed on the same machine as Microsoft Exchange Server, and GFI MailEssentials is configured to perform one of the following actions when an email is detected as spam:
- Delete
- Move to the specified folder (on the hard disk)
- Move to subfolder of user's mailbox
Any emails which are blocked as spam using any of the above mentioned actions will cause Microsoft Exchange to log 'SMTP: Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver message' for the particular message, since the email is not delivered to the recipient’s mailbox by Exchange itself; this is being done by the MailEssentials MTA (Mail Transfer Agent).
Resolution
This message does not indicate any bug, but it is an intended outcome by design.
Note: The error 'SMTP: Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver message' may also be logged for other reasons, unrelated to GFI MailEssentials.
