Answer
PROBLEM
Auto updates of the Bayesian database and the Phishing URI Blocklist are failing and an email is being sent to the Administrator notifying him of the failure.
ENVIRONMENT
- GFI MailEssentials
- All supported environments
SOLUTION
To solve this issue, ensure that un-authenticated connections are allowed from the GFI MailEssentials machine to http://update.gfi.com (on port 80).
When the download is performed from the configuration, the test is made using the credentials of the user that loaded the configuration, i.e. the logged on user.
However, the connection performed to auto download the Bayesian database, and the Phishing URI blocklist updates is being performed using the logon account of the GFI MailEssentials Legacy Attendant Service
Note: It is also possible to resolve this issue by changing the logon account for the "GFI MailEssentials Legacy Attendant" service to an administrator account that can perform http connections to update.gfi.com. However. this is not the preferred solution, since changing the logon account may cause issues with licensing and scanning of the GFI MailEssentials Public Folders.
CAUSE
Incorrect permissions for what can connect to the GFI servers.
