Overview
Emails may be moved to the FailedMails
folder wrongly. This issue is often reported when upgrading from MailEssentials 2012 to 2015.

folder.
Information
GFI MailEssentials scans emails for spam, viruses, trojans, and other malware. If a failure occurs when an email is processed by the anti-virus/trojan/content modules, the email is not delivered to the recipient as it may contain insecure content. If a failure occurs when an email is processed by the anti-spam modules, which are executed after successful checks by the anti-virus/trojan/content modules, the email is sent to the recipient as it has already been successfully verified for malicious content.
A copy of the failed emails is moved to the following directories:
- When an email security module fails:
\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\FailedMails
- When a module from spam filtering fails:
\GFI\MailEssentials\Antispam\FailedMails
Process
Once the issue is resolved, reprocess the legitimate emails in the FailedMails
folder by following the steps below:
- Change all the TXT files that are located in the failed mails folder to EML files by renaming them.
For example, theemail1.txt
file must be renamed toemail1.eml
.- To rename the files in bulk, please run the following command from the Command Prompt.
Ren *.txt *.eml
Please make sure that you are in the correct failed mails folder.
- To rename the files in bulk, please run the following command from the Command Prompt.
- Move the renamed files to the following location, according to your system configuration, for reprocessing:

Antispam\FailedMails
folder are typically copies that have already been delivered. It is recommended to verify whether the email message has already been delivered before re-processing by using the message tracking option or by checking in Microsoft Outlook.FailedMails
folder can be deleted.
