Description

• NEW: GFI MailEssentials 2012 merges the anti-spam capabilities of GFI MailEssentials 2010 with the email security functionality of GFI MailSecurity 2011 into a single on-premise solution
• NEW: GFI MailEssentials 2012 is available in 3 editions, i.e.
  • Anti-Spam Edition, featuring multiple anti-spam technologies and offering over 99% spam detection with low false positives
  • EmailSecurity Edition, featuring multiple antivirus engines and other protection technologies built specifically to offer email protection, such as Email Exploit Engine, Trojan and Executable Scanner, and HTML sanitation
  • UnifiedProtection Edition, offering comprehensive email protection against all forms of email junk and threats
• NEW: Content filtering (keyword\attachment\advanced content filtering) and email management (disclaimers\auto replies\email monitoring\list server\pop2exchange) functionality are available with any licensed edition of GFI MailEssentials 2012
• NEW: GFI MailEssentials 2012 extends the GFI MailSecurity 2011 web based interface to provide both a combined dashboard and the configuration settings for both anti-spam & email security. The user interface for email management features (disclaimers\auto replies\email monitoring\list server\pop2exchange) is still in MMC.
• NEW: The VIPRE antivirus engine has been introduced as a bundled antivirus engine. The other bundled antivirus engine is the BitDefender engine, and the optional ones are the McAfee, Kaspersky and Norman antivirus engines. The AVG antivirus engine previously available in GFI MailSecurity has been discontinued and is not available in GFI MailEssentials 2012.
• NEW: Advanced Content Filtering is a new module which provides filtering of all email content (including email header) using string matching or regular expressions. This feature provides pre-defined rules for filtering emails containing credit card and social security numbers.
• NEW: The SpamRazer filter now supports automatic updating of both engine and engine settings through the SpamRazer auto-updates, allowing such updates to be provided without the need to provide new service releases
• NEW: Reporting is now available through the web based interface and provides both the ability to search within reporting data and to generate different reports based on specific criteria

• NEW: Access control is now configurable through the web interface and provides more granular settings for configuration, reporting and dashboard access
• NEW: On clean installations, a set of disclaimer templates has been included for commonly used disclaimers
• NEW: Added ability to order disclaimers based on priority. As in GFI MailEssentials 2010, only 1 of each type of disclaimers is applied (domain based, group based, user based), but unlike the former version, they will be applied based on the configured priorities.
• NEW: Ability to import & export keywords in Content Filtering rules
• NEW: Ability to configure alternative remoting ports through the switchboard
• NEW: The files exported by the troubleshooter wizard will automatically be compressed into a single file
• UPDATE: The quarantine search folders have been extended so as to support search folders for spam email
• UPDATE: The Anti-Spam Synchronization Agent now supports synchronization of items deleted from Whitelists and Blocklist
• UPDATE: Header Checking has been replaced by the Language Detection feature and by rules which are regularly updated within the SpamRazer engine
• UPDATE: Sender Policy Framework has been implemented as part of the SpamRazer filter. SPF will block emails with FAIL result and increase the spam score for SOFT FAIL result
• UPDATE: The feature for checking sender display name in the former Keyword Checking filter has been added as an option in the Keyword Filtering rules
• UPDATE: The Content Filtering rules can now have groups configured in the list of users to whom the rules apply\don’t apply
• UPDATE: The dashboard has been updated to include a link which shows additional details for the processed email, including the email’s Message ID
• UPDATE: The Switchboard will now indicate if email processing is enabled or disabled
• UPDATE: When installed on a Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010 machine with Hub Transport role only, the option to enable or disable virus scanning on internal emails is now also available
• UPDATE: The GFI MailEssentials 2010 zombie check option, which was based on the SORBS DNS Blocklist, has been changed to an entry in the DNS Blocklists
• UPDATE: UNICODE support has now been implemented in all email processing performed by GFI MailEssentials 2012

• Quarantined spam emails with long email addresses were ending up as bad mail when approved
• Synchronization Agent was not accepting a server name which contained an underscore
• SpamRazer was reporting an error upon unloading during stopping of scan engine
• Disclaimers were affecting email from Microsoft Outlook whose signature contained one or more embedded images
• Attendant service was occasionally crashing when a user was added to a rule’s exception list in the Content\Attachment Filtering
• A crash was occurring in the GFI MailEssentials 2010 attendant service when the action being performed was to move email to a Microsoft Exchange mailbox and the recipient in question was an Active Directory contact
• Failed initialization in module which forwards email to list server was causing a memory leak due to repeated initializations
• Outbound emails containing umlaut characters to which a disclaimer was attached were getting invalid characters instead of umlaut characters
• Inbound domains specified in the GFI MailEssentials 2010 Post Installation Wizard were not being saved
• Submitting of emails from the GFI MailEssentials scan engine to the quarantine store was causing a .NET GC handles leak

1. If installing on Microsoft IIS SMTP (x86 \ x64) or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, then Microsoft IIS with SMTP Service installed is required
2. If installing on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, one of the following combinations of Exchange 2007/2010 Server Roles must be present: Mailbox and Hub Transport or (ii) Hub Transport or (iii) Edge Transport
3. If installing on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Service Pack 1 or later is required
4. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0, must be installed
5. Microsoft Message Queuing (MSMQ) must be installed. The installation detects if MSMQ is not installed and offers the option to automatically install it.
6. Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 must be installed
7. The Microsoft IIS WWW service must be installed. On Microsoft Windows 2008, certain role services need to be specified as per this article.
