Overview
When emails are relayed from the Internet Information Services (IIS) Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to the Microsoft Exchange server, the following error occurs:
Body type not supported by Remote Host
Environment
- GFI MailEssentials
- Microsoft Windows Server 2000
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003
- Microsoft IIS SMTP
Root Cause
By default, the IIS SMTP service advertises 8BITMIME and allows MIME messages to be relayed. However, Microsoft Exchange Server versions 4.0, 5.0, and 5.5 are not able to handle 8-bit MIME messages.
