Overview
After configuring all post-install actions, GFI MailEssentials is ready to start protecting and filtering your mail system from malicious and spam emails.
Ensure that GFI MailEssentials blocks unwanted emails. To do this, send inbound and outbound test emails that are purposely composed in such a way that they are blocked by GFI MailEssentials.
Process
- Create a Content Filtering rule:
- Launch the GFI MailEssentials console.
- Go to GFI MailEssentials > Content Filtering and select the Keyword Filtering node.
- Click Add Rule….
- In Rule name type

. - From the Subject tab, select Block emails if content is found matching these conditions (message subject).
- In Edit Condition type

and click Add Condition. - From the Actions tab, enable Block email and perform this action and select Quarantine email.
- Click Apply to save the rule.
- Send an inbound test email:
- From an external email account, create a new email and type

as the subject. - Send the email to one of your internal email accounts.
- From an external email account, create a new email and type
- Send an outbound test email:
- From an internal email account, create a new email and type

as the subject. - Send the email to an external email account.
- From an internal email account, create a new email and type
- Confirm that test emails are blocked and quarantined:
- From GFI MailEssentials, go to Quarantine > Today.
- Ensure that both inbound and outbound test emails are listed in Malware and Content tab, reason: Triggered rule "Test rule".
NOTE: When the test is completed successfully, delete or disable the Test rule created in step 1.
