Overview
Public folder scanning enables GFI MailEssentials to retrieve emails from public folders to add to Whitelist/Blocklist and HAM/SPAM databases. On certain occasions, such as when using the SpamTag Outlook Extension, this functionality may not be required and can be disabled in order to release system resources.
If public folder scanning is disabled, it will have a significant impact on the training of the Bayesian Analysis Filter. An alternative, such as SpamTag is recommended. You can read more about the effectiveness of the Bayesian Analysis Filter in the Benefits of Bayesian Filtering article.

-
From the GFI MailEssentials Configuration console, expand Anti-spam, select Anti-Spam Settings. To the right select Public Folder Scanning Tab.
