Email Exploit Engine settings are not saving

Overview

Messages are quarantined by the 'Email Exploit Engine detected potential exploit/s: "Long Subject (Suspicious)"' rule. You disable the 'Long Subject (Suspicious)' rule, but the next day it is reactivated.

Solution

This undesired behavior may be caused by a corruption in the database holding the configuration. This is usually resolved by following these steps:

  1. Take a backup copy of the avapicfg.mdb file located at ..\GFI\Mailessentials\Email Security\Data\
  2. After backing up the file, open the avapicfg.mdb file in Microsoft Access.
  3. Go to Database Tools.
  4. Click on the Compact and Repair Database.
  5. Exit Microsoft Access.

Testing

Repairing the database should allow the settings to be saved.

If the issue still persists, please generate the troubleshooting logs as follows:

  • Make sure that you have tracing enabled.
  • Wait for at least 30 minutes to gather enough information and for the issue to be reproduced.
  • Run the troubleshooter:
    1. Start > Programs > GFI MailEssentials > Troubleshooter
    2. Follow the Log Generation Wizard for collecting the required and pertinent information.
    3. Select New Case when completing the log generation to attach the logs to a new case that will be automatically created, or open a support ticket manually and attach the logs to that ticket, so that the Support team can investigate the problem.
