Automatic Updates
With the current antivirus engine update mechanism (version 22.1 and above), manual updates are no longer required. Updates should now complete automatically with a near-zero failure rate, except in cases of network connectivity issues or other environmental factors.
Assisted Update Procedure (if automatic update fails)
If an antivirus engine fails to update automatically, follow these steps to initiate an assisted update:

Open the GFI MailEssentials Console.

In the left navigation panel, expand the “Email Security” section.

Click on “Virus Scanning Engines.”

Select the specific antivirus engine you wish to update.

(If you intend to update multiple engines, repeat these steps for each one individually.)

On the Antivirus Engine page, click the “Updates” tab.

Scroll down and click “Force Full Update”.

The update should now run successfully.
If the Assisted Update Still Fails
If the update does not succeed after forcing it:

Navigate to the updater directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\Updater

Open the folder corresponding to the antivirus engine you’re trying to update.

Delete any files with the “.tmp” extension (temporary files).

Return to the Antivirus Engine page and click “Force Full Update” again.
The update should now complete successfully.
